Ogof Nant Rhin Photos ogof.org.uk

Ogof Nant Rhin is a interesting and sporting cave located in the Clydach Gorge down the steep bank next to the large layby on the Heads of the Valleys Road (map). A tight excavated entrance in the bank of the gorge gives access to the small stream passage. The streamway is tight in places with jagged sharp shelving to make progress more difficult. A hands an knees crawl - the Nitty Gritty Mississippi leads to a small chamber with a waterfall entering. Just before this chamber a climb up in the passage allows you to enter a tight rifty passage with lots of shelving. This leads for some distance and a tight squeeze to end in a the Aven D'Oznog. This aven is the bottom of the third pitch of Ogof Pont Gam. Back at the small chamber the waterfall can be climbed and this leads to a fork in the passage, to the right is a short passage ending in a chamber with some pretty old stall formations - The Garden of Delights. The way on to the left of the fork leads to the PF formations, and a rock bridge in the stream - the Empire Bridge. The passage can be followed some distance from here passing several avens, the last - Shaven Aven has a tight crawl out of it to a small section of passage that end in digs.
